Daily Panchang

Today's tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and vara, with sunrise, sunset, Rahu Kaal, Gulika Kalam, Abhijit Muhurat and the current hora. Choose any date and city to see its panchang, calculated from local sunrise.

About the panchang

A panchang is the Hindu almanac for the day. It is built on five limbs, and each is worked out from the positions of the Sun and the Moon.

Tithi — the lunar day, measured by how far the Moon has moved ahead of the Sun.

Vara — the weekday, counted from one sunrise to the next.

Nakshatra — the lunar mansion the Moon is passing through, one of twenty-seven.

Yoga — one of twenty-seven combinations of the longitudes of the Sun and the Moon.

Karana — half of a tithi, eleven in all.

The tool also shows Rahu Kaal and Gulika Kalam, the periods of the day usually avoided for new beginnings, and Abhijit Muhurat, the window around local noon that is considered favourable for most work. It also lists the hora, the planetary hour, that is running now.

Every timing is calculated from sunrise at the place you choose, so the panchang for Delhi and for Mumbai on the same day will differ by several minutes. Change the city to see yours.

A daily panchang is a general guide for everyone. A mahurat for your own wedding, griha pravesh or new venture also takes your birth chart into account, and that is worked out in a consultation.
